Changbai Mountain Winter Journey
Ski two distinct mountain resorts, explore a frozen volcanic landscape, and experience winter deep in the forests of Northeast China.
A nine-day winter journey through the Changbai Mountain region, combining two contrasting ski resorts with one of Northeast China’s most dramatic volcanic landscapes. Begin at Changbaishan Huamei Resort, where wide, approachable pistes and a lively winter resort atmosphere make for an easy introduction to the region. Midway through the journey, leave the lifts behind for a day in Changbai Mountain’s West Scenic Area, travelling through snow-covered forest towards the frozen crater lake of Tianchi and the volcanic formations of Jinjiang Grand Canyon. The journey then continues to Changbaishan Wanda International Resort, one of China’s most established destination ski resorts, for three final days of skiing, resort dining and hot-spring downtime.

At a Glance
Into Changbai Mountain
Arrive at Changchun Longjia International Airport and continue south towards the Changbai Mountain region. After checking in at Changbaishan Huamei Resort, settle into the slower rhythm of the mountains with a relaxed evening, local hot pot and time to unwind in the hot springs.
Ease Into the Snow
Spend three days discovering Changbaishan Huamei Resort, where broad pistes and a relaxed trail layout make it easy to build rhythm on the mountain. The resort’s 15 wide runs are particularly well suited to intermediate progression, while playful slope features add a lighter side to the ski day.
Away from the pistes, the resort opens into a much broader winter playground. Depending on conditions and seasonal operations, days can extend into snow tubing, forest UTV rides, reindeer encounters, hot springs and evening winter activities — leaving plenty of room to balance skiing with time off the mountain.
Above the Frozen Crater
Trade ski lifts for one of Northeast China’s most remarkable winter landscapes. Travel to Changbai Mountain’s West Scenic Area and continue towards the summit, where winter access to the upper mountain is shaped by deep snow and changing alpine conditions.
When conditions allow, reach the main peak area by snowmobile and look across the frozen expanse of Tianchi, the volcanic crater lake sitting high on the China–North Korea border. Afterwards, descend through the reserve to Jinjiang Grand Canyon, where a forest boardwalk winds past weathered volcanic formations beneath the snow-covered forest.

Three Days at Wanda
Finish the journey with three days at Changbaishan Wanda International Resort, where more than 30 pistes spread across a well-developed mountain and an integrated resort village below. Spend the days moving between long groomed runs, more technical terrain and the resort’s terrain parks, with night skiing offering the option to stay on snow after dark.
Off the mountain, the pace shifts easily into restaurants, cafés and hot springs. With accommodation, skiing and resort facilities concentrated in one destination, these final days are deliberately less structured — giving you time to ski hard, slow down, or simply follow the conditions.
